Ricarda: A Fun, Handwritten Font for Business

It was a busy morning at the café when I realized our menu needed a fresh look. The old design felt tired, and the font wasn’t doing much to catch the eye of customers walking in. I knew we needed something that felt more personal, more inviting. That’s when I discovered Ricarda—a casual, fun handwritten font designed with a brush pen. It had just the right mix of personality and clarity to bring our brand into the next chapter.

Ricarda is part of the Script Amp collection, and it brings a unique energy to any project. Its clean lines and playful curves make it feel approachable, while the slight quirks in each letter give it character. It’s not overly ornate, but it has enough flair to stand out without being distracting. This makes it ideal for small businesses looking to add a touch of creativity without sacrificing professionalism.

One of the first places I used Ricarda was on our new product labels. As a candle seller, the packaging is often the first thing a customer sees, and I wanted it to reflect the care we put into every jar. Ricarda added a warm, handmade feel that made the labels feel more like a gift than just a product. The font worked well on both the front and back of the label, offering a balance between readability and visual interest.

Another practical application came when we redesigned our online shop banner. The previous design felt generic, and we wanted something that felt more aligned with our brand’s voice. Ricarda gave us a way to highlight key phrases like “Handmade in Small Batches” and “Natural Ingredients” with a friendly, authentic tone. It didn’t overpower the rest of the design, which was great because we paired it with a simple sans serif for contrast.

For a bakery, Ricarda could be used on box designs or signage. Imagine a bakery name written in Ricarda, with a few decorative elements around it—just enough to feel special without being too flashy. It also works well for short phrases like “Fresh Daily” or “Handcrafted Treats,” making it perfect for menus, stickers, or even social media posts.

When using Ricarda on printed materials, it’s important to consider legibility. While it’s readable at larger sizes, it may not be the best choice for very small text, especially on labels or packaging where space is limited. For those cases, a simpler font might work better, but Ricarda shines when used as a headline or accent.

Pairing Ricarda with other fonts can help create a balanced design. A clean sans serif like Montserrat or Lato can provide a strong foundation, while a script font like Pacifico or Great Vibes can add a complementary handcrafted feel. If you're going for a more modern look, pairing Ricarda with a sleek serif like Playfair Display can create an elegant contrast that feels both professional and creative.

For digital use, Ricarda works well on social media thumbnails, Instagram posts, and website banners. Its brush-like strokes give it a dynamic feel that can draw attention without feeling too chaotic. When used on mobile screens, it’s best to keep the text size generous and avoid overcrowding the design so that it remains easy to read.

If you’re working on a branding project, Ricarda can be a valuable addition to your design assets. It’s versatile enough to work on logos, business cards, and even email newsletters. Its handwritten style adds a personal touch that can help build a stronger connection with your audience. Whether you're creating a new logo or updating an existing one, Ricarda offers a way to express your brand’s personality with confidence.

Before using Ricarda on any final materials, it’s worth checking the font’s file formats, weights, and language support. Some fonts include multiple styles or alternate characters that can add more flexibility to your design. Also, make sure you have the proper commercial license if you plan to use it on products, packaging, or client work.

As a creative consultant, I’ve seen how the right font can transform a brand from ordinary to memorable. Ricarda isn’t just a pretty typeface—it’s a tool that can help small businesses communicate their values, build trust, and stand out in a crowded market. With its blend of charm and clarity, it’s a font that feels right at home in both digital and physical spaces.
